Goddess Bath–Ultimate Self-care

Image

The Goddess Bath was one of my first forms of self-care when I was just learning what “self-care” really meant as a new mom. They started back when lived in a older West Vancouver home where there wasn’t even a shower… just a big beautiful old bathtub.

I was watching Oprah with my newborn (Nya) and Oprah was talking about her bath time routine. I was in awe that you could put so much care, effort and time into what I had always looked at as a thing that just needed to get done. She took us through how she scheduled it in, lit candles, used epson salts and oils, and listened to relaxing music all while relaxing and allowing the day to melt away. If it worked for Oprah… I had to try it for myself:)

I’ve learned a lot of things from Oprah and this is one thing that has stuck and that I have made my own over the years.  My goddess baths are a ritual that I use to help me unwind, relax, love myself and soothe away my tension.

GODDESS BATH

  1. Schedule it in for when you can have un-interupted time without the kids trying to climb in with you. This might mean you have to ask you hubby or MIL to watch the kids so that you can have YOU time.
  2. Get everything ready. Don’t just run the bath and hop in:) Hells no, you need to get everything laid out and set up. Find and light your candles, grab your epson salts, face mask, healing crystals, favourite essential oil (mine is frankincense or sandalwood), light your palo santo or incense, find a chill playlist on spotify and make a tea or healing elixir to have by your side.
  3. DRY BRUSH. Before you hope into the tub, using a dry brush, stroke your skin softly in upwards strokes towards your heart to stimulate the lymphatic system and slough off any dead skin cells. This can take 3-10 minutes. It’s great for detoxifying and smoothing out your skin plus feels so luxurious.
  4. Now it’s time to run the bath:) Once you find a perfect temperature, add the salts, essential oils and put your hair up in a top knot:)
  5. Hop in and apply your face mask, listen to your relaxing music and sip away on your tea.
  6. While soaking in your bath, refrain from checking your phone, worrying about work, or doing any planning. Just breath and notice the sensations of the water, the music, the beautiful light from the candle. Literally soak it all in for 15-30 minutes.
  7. COLD SHOWER. WTF… I know, you don’t like the sounds of this at all do you? Hear me out. Once you are done soaking and ready to exit the shower, drain the tun and stand up. Turn on the cold water and stand under the cold shower for at least 30 seconds working your way up to 3 minutes. It’s one of the most rejuvenative, anti-aging self-care practices around and it reduces anxiety and boost your immunity!
  8. Dry off with a soft, clean towel keeping the lights low. Moisturize with your favourite natural cream or oil taking your time and indulging in these last few minutes of your alone time.
  9. Take an easy for a bit after your bath. I suggest cuddling with a book, watching a show or meditating to continue your blissed out state of being.

Shouldn’t all baths be like Ariana Grande’s? lol

See how it’s a lot more than just taking a bath. The little extras really do make you feel like a goddess. A few special extras are having few drops of CBD before you get into the bath. I love the local company Birch + Fog for all my CBD products. You can shop for CBD and THC infused bath oils, bath salts, soaps, tinctures, edibles and other goodies.

Now who’s feeling like taking a bath?
