How to Stay Fit while you travel–and still enjoy your vacation!

File 2017-05-10, 8 21 22 AMWorking in the fitness industry, I see a lot of women on a mission to get “bikini ready” or to lose 10 lbs before a vacation. This is the ‘all-or-nothing’ mindset at work again. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for trying to get stronger and adding more movement to your life is generally a great idea. I just don’t believe this is a great mindset to adopt.

I mean, what happens when you get on your trip and stop exercising and eating well? You gain it all back (plus some) or lose the fitness you we’re building. Then you feel guilty when you get home and start the cycle all over again.

This is why I believe in the consistency mindset. A mindset where you build healthy habits for the long-term, not just quick fixes, exercise overload or crash diets. It also means doing things because they feel good – good for your body, good for your mind and good for your soul.

Right now I’m in Costa Rica for a month long vacation/adventure where I have been enjoying a slower pace of life and spending lots of time by the pool and at the beach with my family.

File 2017-05-10, 8 23 10 AMI already have a solid workout routine established at home, so I find it easy to keep it up even while I’m on vacation. It’s not a chore for me, it’s a way of life. Itwon’t pretend it’s always easy to stick to my good habits on holiday but I do have some great ways to maintain some healthy routines on holiday:

  1. Walking is still the cheapest, easiest form of exercise there is. It requires no equipment other then a good pair of shoes (or barefoot on the beach) and it’s a great way to explore the town or city you’re visiting.
  2. Do your workouts early in the am. I know that there’s always lots to see and do while on vacation so my favourite way to make sure I get my workout in is to do it in the morning before anything else. If you are in a hotel room with WIFI you can follow along any You Tube workout (I have lots here-> Be Naturally Fit by Rebecca) and be done in 15 minutes. If you don’t have WIFI, doing your own tabata workout or yoga flow is always an option.
  3. Check out a local fitness studio. I’ve already been to one of the local yoga studios here in Nosara.. Sure it wasn’t the same as home, but I love seeing what other studios are doing and getting inspiration from other instructors.
  4. Use the gym in your hotel. Not always very inspiring but it will get the job done! While I was in Las Vegas, I loved hitting up the gym every morning before lounging by the pool all day!
  5. Swim for fitness and for leisure. If you’re somewhere tropical (like me right now!!) there is a lot of swimming going on! Did you know swimming builds strength and counts as cardio? (30 minutes of swimming (front crawl, not lying on a blow up flamingo) = 300 calories). Your best bet for swimming in the ocean is to get out past the breaking waves and then swim your laps parallel to the beach so you’re not swallowing tonnes of water!
  6. Join Fit Club. Here you’ll get access to workouts, meal ideas and a community of committed women – – – women who will help you overcome the all-or-nothing mindset and develop a lasting fitness habit that will keep you in great shape 365 days a year. https://www.benaturally.fit/fit-club/

Keep up your fitness habit so that when you arrive home, you can just pick back up from where you left off, fit, sexy as hell, and happy that exercise is just a part of what you do!

xoxo
