Well we have officially hit the busiest time of the year. School concerts, Christmas shopping, holiday parties and cookie decorating dates have our calendars JAM PACKED. But does all these added activities add joy and stress to your life?

The holiday season can be great, but with all the grocery store lineups, Christmas shopping, party organizing, and events to get to, we often lose sight of what is important.

Here are a few strategies for enjoying the holidays more and raising your stress levels less:

  • Don’t indulge in the negative self-talk like “I’m so busy!” or “my kids are making me so stressed out!” and instead take a breath and figure out how to simplify your schedule.
  • Get rid of the idea that everything has to be perfect. I know we set very high expectations for ourselves this time of year but remember that some of our best Christmas stories happen when things don’t work out quite as planned!
  • Don’t try to fit too many things into one day. Cross off small, maybe-not-necessary items from your to-do lists. Do you really need those itty-bitty candles that would be “perfect” for your table but will mean driving across town in rush hour?
  • Get outdoors to clear your head and if you can, get into the woods. There is something about the silence of the woods that will fuel your soul and give you the peace you need during these busy times.
  • Keep up with your exercise and healthy eating routines! We are creatures of habit and our bodies crave consistency. When you miss your workouts and over-indulge, you add to your stress levels.
  • Take a nap or have a detox bath (add Epsom salts, lavender essential oil and baking soda). Practicing self-care revives both our bodies and our minds.

So let’s cut down on the stress. Put yourself first and say no when you can’t take on anymore. Stress is emotionally taxing, and it can create havoc in your body.
